The TrueBlue Clinical study is an international project exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help detect early signs of mood changes in pregnant and postpartum individuals. This includes identifying post-natal depression early. The technology was developed by BlueSkeye AI and highlighted by BBC Panorama in 2023. The study is being run in collaboration with experts at the University of Nottingham, specialists in mood disorders, and perinatal psychiatrists.

The study is currently recruiting up to 125 volunteers who are between 12 weeks pregnant and 12 weeks postpartum. Participants will use the TrueBlue app on their mobile devices for 12 weeks, where they can interact with either standard text or a virtual avatar named Kiera, who guides them through tasks. The goal is to see how safe, user-friendly, and accurate the technology is compared to traditional methods for measuring depression and anxiety. 

If successful, TrueBlue could become a modern, automated alternative to outdated clinical tools. It could make mood monitoring more accessible, convenient, and effective helping detect mood issues earlier and allowing healthcare providers to offer better, targeted support.
