Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a mild form of brain stimulation that is a painless, non-invasive procedure, shown to be a safe and effective treatment for treatment-resistant depression. TMS can offer hope for people with depression that have not responded to first-line treatment.

Catapults

CATAPULTS is a research study exploring whether two interactive digital games could help support children who experience difficulties with focus and concentration at school, including children with ADHD. The study aims to find out whether these games could be a practical and useful resource for schools.

CATAPULTS is led by researchers at the University of Nottingham and King’s College London, and is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

TrueBlue

The TrueBlue Clinical study is an international project exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help detect early signs of mood changes in pregnant and postpartum individuals. This includes identifying post-natal depression early. The technology was developed by BlueSkeye AI and highlighted by BBC Panorama in 2023. The study is being run in collaboration with experts at the University of Nottingham, specialists in mood disorders, and perinatal psychiatrists.

SlowMo is a new therapy designed to help people with paranoia feel better and improve their quality of life. It uses a fun and visual approach, showing worries as spinning bubbles. This encourages people to slow down their thinking, focus on facts, and find ways to feel safer.

ADHD Remote Technology and Transition: The teenage years can be tough for young people with ADHD. This stage of life often brings big changes, like finishing school, starting work, or moving out. It’s also a time when conditions like depression, substance use, or delinquency often begin. These new challenges and fewer support networks can leave young people with ADHD especially vulnerable.

ADHD is a common condition that can significantly affect a child’s education and future if not diagnosed and managed promptly. In the UK, ADHD diagnosis often takes too long due to reliance on input from parents, teachers, and clinicians, contributing to long waiting lists and delays.

The guidance was developed by NIHR MindTech HRC (Dr Charlotte Hall, Kelly-Marie Prentice, Olivia Hastings, Dr Bev Brown) and Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (Dr Sophie Hall).

Self-harm is a complex behaviour and we still have much to learn about it. There are many different factors that interact and evolve over time that may lead a young person to self-harm. There are not currently many evidence-based interventions to support young people who self-harm and most have not been co-developed with young people.

RECOGNeyes - a computer game treatment for training better control over visual attention

ADHD affects 1 in 20 school-age children worldwide. It makes it hard to focus, remember things, and stay organised, which can impact skills like reading, maths, and overall learning. These challenges often affect a child’s future, from job opportunities to mental health. While medication can help, it has short-term effects and sometimes unwanted side-effects.
